Ranbir Kapoor in Dubai: On Being 'Besharam' and Proud!

He might be playing the lead in a movie called 'Besharam' but Ranbir Kapoor's pretty much one of the most courteous Bollywood stars we've ever met. In Dubai today (18 September) to promote his new flick, in which he stars with parents Rishi and Neetu, as well as newcomer Pallavi Sharda, Ranbir revealed just how respectful he is, even when he's channeling being a 'Besharam'
Working with his parents
"I had preconceived notions about working with them and was very nervous. But when the day of shooting arrived, everything was normal. I was honoured to be working with them."
Abusing the character his dad Rishi Kapoor plays in 'Besharam'
"I really struggled with that. In real-life I'm so scared of my dad that I don't even look him in the eye when I talk to him. But you know, it's a film. I'm playing a character and he's playing a character. So that kept me going."

Weird thing he had to do for 'Besharam'

"I had to grow my chest hair!"

Similarities between 'Dabangg' and 'Besharam' [which share director Abhinav Kashyap]

" 'Dabangg' is fearless, 'Besharam' is shameless. They're not similar."
The most 'Besharam' thing he's done in real-life
"I dropped my towel in my first movie ('Saawariya'), I was inspired by my dad!" [All the 'Besharam' cast members were asked this question but Ranbir was the only one who answered, and then declared, "Let's leave the ladies out of this question!]
On Madhuri Dixit being lucky for him or him being lucky for her
"I don't believe in luck. It's all about hard work. But I do hope to work with her in the future."
Competing with the Khans
"I expect a lot from myself, but I'm not here to replace anyone. I do what I love, I don't take anything for granted."
Acting advice his dad gave him
"He told me to sing really loudly when I have to sing, so loudly that my veins show. I do that and all the heroines run away!"
Then, it was over to Rishi Kapoor. Bollywood's original romantic hero was in fine form at the press meet. When he was asked if he'd ever thought of making a movie on his life, he joked, "No, that would be very boring." To this, Ranbir cut in, "Actually his life is too colourful, if a film were made of it, it would look like a reality show!"
Ranbir's mum Neetu (who we'd love to see more of on screen) admitted that her return to Bollywood with 'Besharam' was "an exception". "I'm not a career person and not really interested in a comeback."
But she did admit to being excited about matching steps with her hubby and son in the movie. Asked as to who was a better dancer - Rishi or Ranbir - she answered, "Rishi's steps aren't that good but his facial expressions while dancing are amazing. Ranbir does equally well with steps and facial expressions."
Ranbir's parents also revealed that one of the things they really enjoyed about being in 'Besharam' was that they were not playing parents to him!
New girl Pallavi Sharda was all praise for the Kapoors, saying that they "never made me feel like newcomer. It was a privilege to work with them."  More-Info
